Train to Travel
I love to travel and I am very fortunate to say that I’ve been to over 50 countries on 5 continents. I’ve also seen some amazing places here in the United States and our own natural beauty is as good as it gets anywhere in the world. A few personal highlights include:
- hiking to the top of Mt. Kinabalu in Borneo, Malaysia, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia at 13,435 ft
- a four day hike on the Inca Trail over Dead Woman’s Pass (13,829 ft) to Machu Picchu in Peru
- a local backpacking overnight through the Anza-Borrego desert near San Diego, California to a canyon oasis with a stream, waterfalls and trees
- day hikes in the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park in the state of Washington.
I’ve also helped some clients reach their active travel goals.
- I created a strength and aerobic conditioning program to train my Mom to climb the Bright Angel Trail out of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This was an 8 mile hike with an elevation gain of 4,380 ft while carrying a backpack filled with everything she needed for our 5-day oar-powered river rafting trip along the Colorado River. Oh, and did I mention Mom was age 70 when she completed this feat in under 8 hours? Way to go, Mom!
- I hosted a 3-day retreat at a remote cabin in Ione, Washington (two hours outside Spokane) for a group of four ladies in their late 60’s and early 70’s. I provided transportation from Spokane, healthy meals, daily stretching and yoga, day hikes, leisurely boat rides and an environment where plenty of laughs were had by all. There was even this spontaneous outbreak of synchronized swimming. Nice legs, ladies!
